How To Pull Off the Metallic Lip Trend

There are some makeup looks that seem suitable only for runways and stylized editorials. Once upon a time, metallic lips fell into that category. You may be wary of trying metallic lippies because of the pale, frosty lips you used to see.

But metallic lips have slowly become more wearable. In an interview with Allure, makeup artist Beau Nelson explains why. “The pigments are more refined, so the metallic effect is more molten and less ‘robot’ than the original formulations, which makes them much more wearable.”

If you want to give metallic lips a try, here are some tips.

First, skip highlighter in other parts of the face. Think of metallic lips as highlighter for your lips. Keep the rest of your face fresh and matte. The glitter and gloss should only be on your lips because you don’t want to overdo anything.

Choose understated hues in matte for your eyes. You can also add mascara and eyeliner. Your metallic lips are your statement piece for your look, so stick to browns and nudes.

Bustle writer Kelly Dougher suggested, “You can create so many different combinations of lipstick color and metallic shade by layering loose shadows or glitter on top of regular lipstick.” This means you don’t have to shell out a lot of money just to recreate this look. Just look for items that are already likely in your makeup collection.

M.A.C Dazzleglass (Php 1,400)

Romero Jennings, director of makeup artistry at M.A.C., shared his own suggestions to Allure. He adds a drop of M.A.C. Dazzleglass on top of lipsticks.

Dior Addict Gloss (Php 1,850.00)

The Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss is a hydrating lip plumper and gloss. It offers shine, color, and protection. You can wear this alone. (It’s beautiful as it is!) But you can also add it on top of your usual lippie.

Stila’s Shimmer – Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick (Php1,250.00)

Remember Stila’s iconic Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick? That lippie just got a makeover! This new version has the same staying power as the original matter version. But now, there’s a subtle metallic shimmering finish. Its weightless, color-rich formula won’t bleed or transfer.

The Miele Shimmer (shimmering warm dusty rose) and Illuminaire Shimmer (shimmering warm caramel) are both flattering and versatile shades.

NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Xenon (Php 1,450.00)

If you can’t decide between matte or glossy, then you will love this lippie! It glides like a gloss and has a satin to soft-matte style. It results in a natural-looking finish and feels comfortable, too!

The Xenon shade is a dusty mauve–sexy, flattering, and natural.

The fun thing about metallic lipstick is that you can layer makeup products you already have. Think of it as falling even more in love with your old favorites. You can be creative and explore new ways to beautify yourself.
